David Street School is a SunSmart school. All students are required to wear a school hat during the summer months in Terms 1 and 4. 

This applies whenever students are outdoors, especially during break times. Please note that we have a strict “no hat, no play” policy. 

From  2026, parents will purchase and take ownership of their child’s hat. This change reflects what many other schools are doing and will make the process simpler for the school, more cost-effective for families, and also allow students to take responsibility for their own hats. 

Our new school hats will be Cancer Society black, wide-brimmed bucket hats featuring an adjustable toggle for sizing.

 How to Purchase 

Parents are asked to purchase their child’s hat before the beginning of the school year. 

Hats will be available online from the David Street School Shop in January 2026. Or once school opens, from the school office.  

Cost of $13.00 

Sizes: 

Small:  to fit head circumference 50 - 54cm  

Medium:  to fit head circumference 54 - 58cm 

 Once purchased, your child’s name will be written on their hat before it is given to them. 

Hats remain the property of each student. We recommend that hats be kept in your child’s school bag or in their desk at school.
